Dewey. Redo

Melanie sent me this fantastical redo, and I immediately hopped on to Craigslist to see if there was a card catalog available in my neck of the woods. No such luck. Only offers to BUY card catalogs. I’m still holding out hope that the universe or maybe a secret admirer will deliver one to my door. A girl can dream, right? And a nerdy girl will dream of card catalogs. Check it out on her equally fantastical blog The Frosted Gardener.

  2. LOL! I have totally searched for a card catalog on craigslist SEVERAL times. No luck on this end of the woods either. Darn!

    Looks awesome!

  3. I’ve dreamed of finding one of these.

  4. awesome! I’d love to find one as well!

  5. I love this after. I have been searching for one of these for awhile. They look amazing. Mr Goodwill Hunting found one at Goodwill a couple of weeks ago for $20.00. Check out his post http://mrgoodwillhunting.blogspot.com/2011/02/do-you-believe-in-fairies.html

  6. It looks like lots of us are looking for these. I want to redo it and make it into an accessory cabinet.

  7. I want one for me to stash screws, knobs and all things small that so easily get lost. Dewey….haven’t heard that term since my elementary school days! I just asked my 13 yo daughter if she knew what a dewey decimal system was and she said…I know what it is but I’m just not good at it…probably thought it was some form of algebra or geometry, hahhaha!

  8. Very nice. I just don’t know what I would put in it.

  9. Gorgeous!

  10. I gasped when I saw the card catalog….my life for one! Love all the redos.

  11. Just a FYI – I have seen these pop up on Craigslist occasionaly, but you have to check it everyday for who knows how long – depends on how long one is willing to search. eBay has them, but then you’re not going to get a bargain. Lastly, if your local university has a surplus store you can find a lot of neat things like this, but they usually need refinishing, which is ok.

  12. I have this same thing but bigger. I so want to do something like this but with some distressing and glaze but don’t want to “ruin it” I paid $500 for mine (I know GULP) from ebay but it did benefit a library in PA.

  13. I’m drooling. Would love to have one to sort and store all my small craft supplies!

  14. That piece is gorgeous…what a lucky duck to find it!!! it’s just as well I haven’t come across one…I’d have to get rid of something to bring anything else in my house!!

  15. For anyone who wants one of these and lives in the Madison, Wisconsin area – there is one just listed today on Madison Craigslist for $400.00. In my daily perusal I noticed it, it is listed under Antiques. I made a comment yesterday about this posting and had to pass it on when I saw it.

  16. I have one in my garage! I guess I know what I’ll be doing during spring break.

  17. I’m so excited to tell you this. I don’t know if you will be too, but here it goes.

If you haven’t found your card catalog:

You mentioned that you live in the west side of phoenix.
There is a phoenix library friends sale at a warehouse just google for dates and address.
I have only been there twice, both times they had card catalogs. I don’t remember the price too well maybe ($300).

Good Luck finding your card catalog

  18. Are any of you looking for a card catalog in Nashville? My office is moving soon and we have had one stuck in our attic that we are selling before the big move. If I am remembering correctly, it is about 5 feet tall and comes in several “box” pieces stacked on top of eachother. I don’t think there are legs on it. It is currently a dark wood. If there is any interest I can take pictures for you. If not, I’ll post on craigslist!

  19. I would KILL for a card catalog. Ok, maybe not kill, but seriously injure…lol
I love the redo’s on these things.

  20. I’ve been looking for one of these for a few years now. The only one’s I could find were beautiful antique one’s worth lots of money but I would love to find one like this and redo it. I’m in love with this project.
