Dewey. Redo

 Feb 21, 2011

Melanie sent me this fantastical redo, and I immediately hopped on to Craigslist to see if there was a card catalog available in my neck of the woods. No such luck. Only offers to BUY card catalogs. I'm still holding out hope that the universe or maybe a secret admirer will deliver one to my door. A girl can dream, right? And a nerdy girl will dream of card catalogs. Check it out on her equally fantastical blog The Frosted Gardener.

I love this after. I have been searching for one of these for awhile. They look amazing. Mr Goodwill Hunting found one at Goodwill a couple of weeks ago for $20.00. Check out his post http://mrgoodwillhunting.blogspot.com/2011/02/do-you-believe-in-fairies.html

It looks like lots of us are looking for these. I want to redo it and make it into an accessory cabinet.

I want one for me to stash screws, knobs and all things small that so easily get lost. Dewey....haven't heard that term since my elementary school days! I just asked my 13 yo daughter if she knew what a dewey decimal system was and she said...I know what it is but I'm just not good at it...probably thought it was some form of algebra or geometry, hahhaha!

Very nice. I just don't know what I would put in it.

Just a FYI - I have seen these pop up on Craigslist occasionaly, but you have to check it everyday for who knows how long - depends on how long one is willing to search. eBay has them, but then you're not going to get a bargain. Lastly, if your local university has a surplus store you can find a lot of neat things like this, but they usually need refinishing, which is ok.

I have this same thing but bigger. I so want to do something like this but with some distressing and glaze but don't want to "ruin it" I paid $500 for mine (I know GULP) from ebay but it did benefit a library in PA.

I'm drooling. Would love to have one to sort and store all my small craft supplies!

That piece is gorgeous...what a lucky duck to find it!!! it's just as well I haven't come across one...I'd have to get rid of something to bring anything else in my house!!

For anyone who wants one of these and lives in the Madison, Wisconsin area - there is one just listed today on Madison Craigslist for $400.00. In my daily perusal I noticed it, it is listed under Antiques. I made a comment yesterday about this posting and had to pass it on when I saw it.

I have one in my garage! I guess I know what I'll be doing during spring break.

I'm so excited to tell you this. I don't know if you will be too, but here it goes.

If you haven't found your card catalog:

You mentioned that you live in the west side of phoenix.
There is a phoenix library friends sale at a warehouse just google for dates and address.
I have only been there twice, both times they had card catalogs. I don't remember the price too well maybe ($300).

Good Luck finding your card catalog

Are any of you looking for a card catalog in Nashville? My office is moving soon and we have had one stuck in our attic that we are selling before the big move. If I am remembering correctly, it is about 5 feet tall and comes in several "box" pieces stacked on top of eachother. I don't think there are legs on it. It is currently a dark wood. If there is any interest I can take pictures for you. If not, I'll post on craigslist!
