Come to the light.

 Feb 9, 2011

If you've been reading this blog for any amount of time, you have probably heard about my knotty-wood phobia. It creeps me out! I can't hardly look at pictures of it, let alone be surrounded by it in a room full of beady little wood-knot eyes that watch my every move. Awful! I also have a fear of dark, overly ornate wood, because it looks like a coffin to me. Other than vampires or people who are like, really goth, who wants to furnish their homes with coffins? No one, that's who.

That's why Courtney lightened up this dreary armoire with white paint and a glaze job that makes the details jump out and say "Hey! I'm interesting and fabulous, NOT a destination for human remains!" To recap, Dark ornate wood: scary. Light ornate wood: fantastic! Thanks Courtney!

I laughed at your first comment up there, after your intro about death and coffins - she would die for the cabinet. Hee hee. I'm sorry you have this phobia, you must have a really hard time shopping anywhere but Ikea, where they are allergic to dark wood. The makeover is really nice, it still looks gothic, but so elegant!

Anyone have a 'How To' on the above? I absolutely love it, and I'm looking at getting something at the Salvation Army or Goodwill to put a TV on (a buffet or something, not sure yet), and I would love to be able to glaze it, however, I have no idea how to go about making it look as amazing as she did!
