Don't Stair.

 Sep 22, 2010

I'm guessing Better After reader Thomas either doesn't have kids, or has very, very coordinated kids who can make it up the new railing free stairs without dive-bombing off the side, like my kids would. Oh well, that's the price we pay for style, kids.

I love the way this went from frumpity and boring to sleek and chic, and curious to know what kind of treatment the carpeted stairs got. Fill us in Thomas!

I would love to see the stairway painted the same as the walls. And put back the railing and also paint that the same as the walls. I bet the whole thing would disappear and all we'd see is a "floating" kitty!

Does a stairway without a railing meet code?

But I love the rug! Any idea where it's from?

NO WAY!!! 6 weeks ago I fell down our stairs...and they have a bannister. I messed up my foot BIG TIME and still can't walk correctly. I would not dare want this in my home.

L, Thats an Ikea Gislev rug. I literally just bought one last week, but they ran out of rug pads so I wont be opening mine until I get a rug pad. Its very cheap, but is really soft AND NICE for a low pile! My Ikea had it for $19.99.

looks awesome.. I would seriously fall down the stairs. But then again I fall over walking on the sidewalk.

Hi everybody. The stairs are actually a lot easier to walk up and down on than they look. There's a wall on both sides of you walking down stairs until you get to the living room. The stairs themselves are still carpeted, but the entire upstairs is on the docket for a full revamp. Those lamps and coffee table were all sanded down and spray painted. They were horrid before.

Looks neat, but my fear of falling off anything remotely high would keep me from using it! Plus my kids would totally jump/fall off!

LOVE the painting too....I know it's a "Thomas Original". You rock.

And I think you should install a slide there instead of stairs....how fun would that be? Those are hard to climb up though....

Looks great! Totally inspired.

I think it's beautiful! Love the contrasting stairs against the cool grey-blue walls. The kitteh rocks, and so does the rug, the painting and the table.
